XVALsports provides a unique business perspective of professional baseball.  Through the use of advanced statistics and salary data, our XVAL metric highlights players providing “The Best Value in the Game”.  The XVAL metric also provides a “common currency” for the ever popular analysis and discussions regarding player value.  We also have created easy access to each player’s performance (WAR) and salary information along side our XVAL metric.

We believe professional baseball players, as a whole, should make a lot of money.  We enjoy seeing players with large salaries produce big numbers to support those big paychecks.  We love seeing players that perform above their salary level and we join them in their excitement for their next contract.  We even appreciate those players not currently producing above their salary level as they had to perform well enough to have their current contract - we simply wish them success at getting their XVAL back above break-even before the end of the season!

XVAL represents the amount of excess value produced by a player. It is not simply the value the player has produced, but it is the value they have produced above & beyond (or in some cases below) what they have been paid. It is derived from calculating the total value produced by a player (WAR * Win Value) then subtracting the amount of salary the player has been paid through that given point in the season. For a more detailed definition visit our blog post: What is XVAL?
WAR (Wins Above Replacement) is a baseball statistic that represents how many more wins a player would give a team as opposed to a "replacement level", or minor league/bench player at that position.
