However Niese is no longer in the negative due to an impressive pitching performance on August 27th versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Niese pitched all nine innings in that game giving up only three hits and no runs while striking out five. His ERA of 3.66 through this past Sunday is the lowest it has been since May 5th and his win last week against the Phillies improved his record to 6-6 from a low of 3-6 in mid-June.
