Josh Donaldson of the Oakland Athletics has been one of the most improved players in MLB this season. His game of the week was on September 13th versus the Texas Rangers. Donaldson homered to left in the third inning, then doubled to deep center field driving in two runs in the fourth. Lead by Donaldson’s performances, the Athletics swept the Texas Rangers in Texas, improving their record to 5-1 for the week. Donaldson was hitting like an all-star this week with eight hits, one double, two home runs, six RBI’s, and a batting average of .444.
With Donaldson consistently firing on all cylinders, he has risen up the A.L. WAR ranks to 2nd overall, surpassed only by Mike Trout. Donaldson’s performance last week produced a WAR of 0.9. Therefore, given his salary for the week of $18,241, he produced almost $2.7M in XVAL (excess value) in a single week and putting him over $21M in XVAL for the season. Here is our tribute to Josh Donaldson for his impressive performance last week and how it compares to both traditional and advanced MLB stats this season.
